So the start of 2013 has come and gone. In fact, we are getting close to the end of January already - only a few more days. And I still have not posted any new entries here on the blog (until now!). Since I'm suffering from some combination of writer's block and procrastinationitis, I figured I should just start writing (as my former pastor taught us) and eventually something useful or noteworthy may find their way onto paper (or computer screen as the case may be). This post is what you get using that method.
Late in 2012, one of the courses I took to maintain my CPA license was on social media strategies. One of the tools they introduced was an editorial calendar for your social media accounts. In my case, I ended up with five projects I'm trying to juggle, this Staying Awake blog being one of them. So what is planned for 2013?
I have a couple "major" projects going on that I hope to write about here. First, the Sunday School class that I am leading is engaged in a project to read through the Bible in one year, a book (or more) each week, following Through the Bible in One Year. This is really a survey of the Bible done by Alan Stringfellow that we started back in 2012. Thus far we have completed Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges and Ruth. This week we are reading through 1 Samuel. I suppose if I can get caught up with my tasks, I might be able to start writing about some of the questions that come up in class.
The second major project is a reading list I hope to complete this year. It consists of 13 books intended to help church leaders become better leaders. The list includes:
1. | ![]() | The White Umbrella: Walking with Survivors of Sex Trafficking (Little Libraries) |
2. | ![]() | The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth: Live Them and Reach Your Potential Offered by Hachette Book Group |
3. | ![]() | Amplified Leadership: 5 practices to establish influence, build people, and impact others for a lifetime |
4. | ![]() | Beyond Ordinary: When a Good Marriage Just Isn't Good Enough |
5. | ![]() | Unleash!: Breaking Free from Normalcy |
6. | ![]() | OXEN |
7. | ![]() | Leadership Axioms: Powerful Leadership Proverbs by Bill Hybels (Author) |
8. | ![]() | Hero. by Derwin Gray (Author) |
9. | ![]() | Renegades Write the Rules: How the Digital Royalty Use Social Media to Innovate |
10. | ![]() | Linchpin: Are You Indispensable? Offered by Penguin Publishing |
11. | ![]() | Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World |
12. | ![]() | Doctrine: What Christians Should Believe (RE: Lit) (RE: Lit: Vintage Jesus) |
The thirteenth book on the list is Deep & Wide: Creating Churches Unchurched People Love to Attend which I am on track to complete before the end of the month. Hopefully I'll be able to write-up a review of the book once I complete it. And a quick note - I'll actually be reading the books in the list from bottom to top, so the next book will be Doctrine: What Christians Should Believe.
Hopefully with all of this reading, I'll get some ideas on things to share via the blog and more importantly, actually get them written up.
